Senior Network Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to join a dedicated team of network specialists within the Public Services sector. This role is pivotal in supporting a diverse range of infrastructure technologies, ensuring seamless connectivity in West Yorkshire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert support for various network infrastructures, including Cisco's Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), Nexus and Catalyst Switches, ASA and Firepower Firewalls, and Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC).
  • Manage access points (APs), Cisco/Checkpoint Firewalls, load balancers, and reverse proxies, as well as IP Address Management appliances.
  • Oversee voice systems including PSTN and Teams Telephony, ensuring robust communication channels.
  • Ensure reliable connectivity across multiple data centres, both on-premises and in the cloud, while managing Wide Area Networks (WANs), Local Area Networks (LANs), corporate Wi-Fi, public and private APNs, and VPNs (remote access and site-to-site).
  • Collaborate on local, regional, and national projects to deliver effective IT systems and services to support public safety initiatives.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Cisco CCNP certification or equivalent is ideal, with a minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role within the public sector or police environment.
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing Cisco and Checkpoint Firewall rule bases, access lists, and network address translation (NAT and PAT).
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP and UDP protocols, as well as BGP and OSPF routing protocols, policy-based routing, DNS, DHCP, trunk ports, port channels, VLANs, STP, and VOIP technologies (SIP, SBCs, ATAs, etc.).
  • Familiarity with security protocols such as IPSec, PKI, and certificate management.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A methodical and logical approach to problem-solving, paired with strong analytical skills and self-motivation.
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and lead initiatives effectively.
  • Experience with Cisco Wi-Fi solutions, particularly the Cisco 9800 Wireless LAN Controllers, Cisco APs, guest access configurations, anchor controllers, mobility groups, and Cisco PoE Switches.
  • Previous involvement in Wi-Fi projects is a plus.
