Summary: The Senior Network Engineer role involves designing, deploying, and maintaining a high-performance network infrastructure for GPU clusters, essential for AI workloads. The position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure optimal network performance and reliability. The engineer will also be responsible for automation, incident response, and documentation. This is a 6-month contract based in South East London, classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect and roll out leaf-spine fabrics using Mellanox Switches with Cumulus Linux; integrate Juniper PTX core Routers and SRX Firewalls.
- Perform hands-on configuration, upgrades, and troubleshooting of Juniper PTX, SRX, and NVIDIA/Cumulus devices.
- Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks (and other frameworks) to streamline deployment, configuration management, and compliance.
- Implement telemetry and monitoring solutions (eg, SNMP, sFlow, gRPC) to proactively detect and resolve bottlenecks under production loads.
- Lead network incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and post-mortem reviews in a high-pressure, 24×7 operational environment.
- Work cross-functionally with compute and storage teams; create detailed documentation for network designs, runbooks, and SOPs.
Key Skills:
- 3-5+ years' experience supporting high-pressure HPC or AI-focused environments, particularly GPU clusters.
- Strong background in BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, MPLS, and Data Center Interconnects (DCI).
- Hands-on administration of Mellanox hardware.
- Deep knowledge of L3 leaf-spine architectures and switch management with Cumulus OS.
- Advanced configuration, scaling, and troubleshooting of PTX core Routers.
- Firewall deployment, configuration, and policy management.
- Comfortable with CLI-based troubleshooting and Scripting.
- Experience with Ansible and Python Scripting; familiarity with Terraform is a bonus.
