Summary: The Senior Moodle Developer & Technical Product Owner role is a hybrid position based in Central London, focusing on leading the evolution of a large-scale digital learning platform for a globally recognized education organization. The successful candidate will combine hands-on Moodle and PHP expertise with technical product ownership to modernize and scale the platform. This role involves collaboration across engineering, product, and stakeholder teams to define technical roadmaps and enhance engineering capabilities. The position is initially a 6-month contract with a competitive day rate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead advanced Moodle development across custom plugins, integrations, platform optimisation, and scalable architecture
  • Design and implement API-first solutions and integration patterns across multiple systems and services
  • Improve engineering standards, development governance, testing practices, CI/CD pipelines, and release processes
  • Act as a technical product owner, translating business and educational objectives into scalable technical solutions
  • Help shape future-state platform strategy, engineering capability, and roadmap direction
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across platform modernisation initiatives
  • Support performance optimisation, scalability, and platform reliability within complex global environments
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders across technology, product, and operational functions

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience operating as a senior Moodle/PHP engineering lead within complex digital platform environments
  • Deep Moodle development expertise including custom development, integrations, architecture, optimisation, and scalable platform design

  • Strong experience designing REST APIs, middleware, and scalable service architectures

Senior Moodle Developer & Technical Product Owner Central London (Hybrid – ideally 3 days a week onsite) Initial 6-Month Contract, Full-Time Competitive Day Rate We are supporting a globally recognised education organisation in the search for an exceptional Senior Moodle Developer & Technical Product Owner to help lead the evolution of a large-scale digital learning platform used across an international education network. This is not a traditional Moodle Developer role. The successful contractor will combine deep hands-on Moodle and PHP engineering expertise with technical product ownership, platform strategy, and modern engineering capability development. You will play a key role in shaping the future of a globally scaled student-facing platform focused on collaboration, engagement, and personalised learning experiences. You will work across engineering, product, and stakeholder teams to modernise and scale a complex Moodle-based platform, helping define both the technical roadmap and the engineering maturity required to support future growth.
