Summary: We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to lead the development of innovative mechanical designs from concept through to production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, excellent technical expertise, and the ability to mentor junior engineers while managing complex design projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the creation and review of detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
- Develop and oversee technical drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure clarity and manufacturability.
- Conduct advanced engineering calculations and design analysis to optimise product performance and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, manufacturing, quality, and procurement to deliver cost-effective and efficient design solutions.
- Drive design reviews, identify risks, and recommend design improvements.
- Mentor and support junior design engineers to build team capability.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Provide expert technical guidance throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years experience in mechanical design within the nuclear sector.
- Advanced proficiency in CAD software and other engineering tools.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and design for manufacturability.
- Proven leadership and project management skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Preferred: Experience with FEA, CFD, or other simulation tools.
- Knowledge of GD&T and industry standards.
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems and document control.
