Summary: The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role involves supporting the delivery of projects in the UK water industry, specifically focusing on regulated clean and wastewater projects. The position requires significant experience in mechanical design, particularly hydraulic design, and entails overseeing CAD technicians and junior designers. The role is based in Manchester with a hybrid working arrangement, requiring 2 to 3 days a week in the office. The contract is for 12 months and classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements.
- Produce design calculations and drawings for the water industry.
- Direct and develop CAD technicians and more junior designers and graduates.
- Design in compliance with relevant technical, professional and group standards.
Key Skills:
- Minimum 10 years' mechanical design experience in the UK water industry.
- Significant experience in hydraulic design.
- Awareness of electrical design and control systems.
- Registered with a professional body and working towards chartership.
- Chartered engineer (preferred).
- Experience in electrical and/or control engineering (preferred).
- Experience in UMON schemes (preferred).
- Awareness of construction methods and materials (preferred).

An established engineering design consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the delivery of projects across regulated clean and wastewater projects in the UK.
The Projects you'll be working on
- Varied projects across the UK water industry, including:
- Various UMON projects in Sewage Treatment Works
- Pumped storm storage for CSOs and Sewage Treatment Works
Key Responsibilities
- Provide design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements.
- Produce design calculations and drawings for the water industry
- Direct and develop CAD technicians and more junior designers and graduates.
- Design in compliance with relevant technical, professional and group standards.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- min 10 years' mechanical design experience in the UK water industry
- significant experience in hydraulic design
