Summary: The Senior Management Accountant role at Elexon involves supporting the management reporting function for the Elexon Group and its subsidiaries on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills and experience in management accounting. The role also includes mentoring junior staff and maintaining financial systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support month-end close activities for assigned directorates, programmes, and subsidiaries
  • Prepare and contribute to consolidated financial reports and Board packs
  • Conduct monthly FP&A activities including P&L, cost, KPI, and variance analysis
  • Produce ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support business decisions
  • Meet regularly with cost centre managers, project managers, and directors to review financial performance
  • Maintain key account reconciliations including accruals, prepayments, deferred income, and accrued income
  • Manage and maintain the fixed asset register and related policies
  • Support annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and the three-year business planning process
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop budgets and compile financial assumptions
  • Maintain and support finance systems within the reporting function
  • Assist with year-end activities and liaise with external auditors where required
  • Supervise and mentor the Assistant Management Accountant

Key Skills:

  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting
  • Experience with project accounting and financial analysis
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, including working with senior leaders
  • Experience working with management reporting systems and processes
  • Studying towards ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualifications
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word
  • Strong Excel capabilities including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and advanced formulas
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to positively influence stakeholders across the business
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • A proactive and methodical approach with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior colleagues (desirable)
  • Knowledge of the electricity industry or the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) (desirable)

We’re looking for a Senior Management Accountant to join the Finance team at Elexon on a 12 month fixed-term contract (FTC).

In this role, you’ll support the management reporting function for Elexon Group and its subsidiary entities, ensuring the integrity and timely production of financial reporting and analysis. You’ll work closely with Finance Business Partners , senior managers, directors, and project teams to support budgeting , forecasting , and business decision-making across the organisation.

This role requires an individual with strong analytical and stakeholder management skills, excellent attention to detail, and experience in management accounting and financial reporting.
