Summary: The Senior Linux Systems Engineer at Kaon Ltd will be instrumental in developing and delivering Linux-based embedded systems for defence technology, specifically for projects deployed on Royal Navy ships and submarines. This role requires extensive experience with Linux systems, including configuration, integration, and testing of real-time systems. Key Responsibilities:

  • Configuration, integration, and testing of real-time systems and software components.
  • Configuring and maintaining Linux operating system images for specialist applications.
  • Linux device driver installation, optimisation, and testing.
  • Linux kernel configuration, compilation, optimisation, and testing.
  • Installing operating system images and bespoke software onto embedded systems and testing.
  • Assembling and configuring systems using server-grade hardware.
  • Undertaking testing, acceptance, and accreditation processes on production systems.
  • Coordinating with software engineers to specify operating system requirements and create OS images.
  • Configuring operating systems for security and optimal network and resource performance.
  • Monitoring security patch releases and applying as necessary.
  • Specifying hardware requirements and identifying suitable hardware components.
  • Providing support to Linux-based software development resources.

Key Skills:

  • At least 8 years of experience working with Linux systems.
  • In-depth knowledge and familiarity with the Linux operating system.
  • Understanding of programming with C/C++.
  • Experience with server-grade hardware.
  • Linux command line for OS and network configuration.
  • Understanding of Linux device drivers and security configuration.
  • Familiarity with Debian and Red Hat based distributions.
  • Understanding of common networking protocols.
  • Shell scripting skills.
  • Technical qualification in computer systems.
  • Adaptable and flexible attitude.
