Senior Light Designer - Automotive Design Studio, Gothenburg

Location: Gothenburg, Sweden
Contract: Fixed-term assignment
Start date: As soon as possible

Our client's Design Studio in Gothenburg is looking for a Senior Light Designer to join their Technology & Innovation team. In this role, you will shape both interior and exterior lighting solutions that bring vehicles to life, blending aesthetics, function, and cutting-edge technology.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop lighting concepts for interior and exterior systems (ambient, functional, and communication lighting).
• Translate brand DNA into distinctive lighting signatures and dynamic behaviors.
• Collaborate closely with Exterior/Interior Design, CMF, UX, and Engineering teams.
• Use visualization, simulation, and prototyping tools to validate concepts and communicate design intent.
• Present your ideas clearly to stakeholders and suppliers through storytelling and visual communication.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial/Product/Transportation Design, Lighting Design, or a related field.
• 5+ years' experience in automotive lighting design or similar industries (consumer products, architecture, etc.).
• Strong proficiency in Blender and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Proven ability to turn creative concepts into feasible, manufacturable solutions.
• Excellent English communication skill, both written and spoken.
• A hands-on, prototyping mindset; basic electronics or rapid prototyping skills are a plus.
• Understanding of automotive lighting regulations is an advantage.

Nice to Have

• Experience with advanced lighting technologies (OLED, AR overlays, projection/DLP).
• Knowledge of optics, materials, and light interaction in vehicle interiors.
• Previous experience working in or with automotive design studios or Tier 1 suppliers.

Additional Information

• Based in Gothenburg, Sweden (office-first culture with some flexibility to work from home).
• Occasional travel to China may be required (1-2 trips per year).
• Fluent English is required; a valid driver's license is preferred.
• For this role we require you to have a valid work-permit in Sweden.
