Summary: The Senior Legal Officer role involves providing expert legal support and advice for key commercial projects within the Council, primarily through home working with occasional presence in Doncaster. The position requires significant experience in contract and commercial law, ensuring lawful decisions are made in the Council's best interests. The officer will also be responsible for drafting legal documents, representing the Council, and delivering training to staff and elected members. This interim role is crucial for supporting senior legal staff on complex legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality legal and commercial advice to the Council and its officers.
• Draft and advise on contracts, construction contracts, grants, and other commercial documents.
• Represent the Council and deputise for other Council Officers.
• Ensure compliance with professional standards and contribute to a modern legal service.
• Prepare and present training programmes for team members and other stakeholders.
• Conduct work in accordance with internal policies and effective use of case management systems.

Key Skills:

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEx Lawyer with substantial post-qualification experience.
• Significant knowledge in Contract and Commercial law.
• Experience advising on significant commercial projects.
• High standard of drafting, negotiating, and communication skills.
• Understanding of Value for Money in service delivery.
• Knowledge of Local Government Law and current Procurement legislation.
• Good understanding of construction contracts (NEC/JCT).
