Summary: The Senior Legal Officer role involves providing expert legal support and advice for key commercial projects within the Council, ensuring compliance with legal obligations. The position requires collaboration with senior legal staff and the Head of Service on complex legal matters. The role includes drafting contracts and offering training to Council officers while maintaining high professional standards. This interim position primarily allows for home working with occasional presence required in Doncaster.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality legal and commercial advice to the Council and its officers.
• Draft and advise on contracts, construction contracts, grants, and other commercial documents.
• Represent the Council and deputise for other Council Officers.
• Ensure compliance with professional standards and contribute to the legal service's development.
• Prepare and present training programmes for team members and other stakeholders.
• Conduct work in accordance with internal policies and effective use of case management systems.

Key Skills:

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEx Lawyer with substantial post-qualification experience.
• Significant knowledge in Contract and Commercial law.
• Experience advising on significant commercial projects.
• Strong drafting, negotiating, and communication skills.
• Understanding of Value for Money in service delivery.
• Knowledge of Local Government Law and current Procurement legislation.
• Experience with construction contracts (NEC/JCT).
