Summary: The Senior Legal Counsel will provide strategic legal advice to the Executive team and the wider organization, focusing on commercial aspects and complex legal issues related to various agreements. This role involves developing the newly established Legal function and serving as the principal Legal Advisor, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will also lead the implementation of the organization's legal strategy and support cross-functional teams in addressing legal challenges. The position is integral to the UK's largest health research program, Our Future Health, which aims to innovate disease detection, prevention, and treatment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic legal counsel to executive leadership on legal risks and opportunities.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts to protect the organization's interests.
- Support procurement activities with legal advice on supplier contracts.
- Contribute to legal discussions on charity law and partnerships.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address legal challenges.
- Lead the development and implementation of the organization's legal strategy.
- Conduct legal analysis and risk assessments to mitigate potential issues.
- Stay updated on legal and regulatory developments in health research.
- Advise on dispute management and resolution strategies.
- Provide training on key regulations to organizational functions.
- Mentor and supervise junior legal team members.
Key Skills:
- English law qualified solicitor with 8-9 years of post-qualification experience.
- Excellent knowledge of contract, commercial, and corporate law.
- Experience in Life Sciences and health research.
- Proven track record in leading complex transactions and negotiations.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience in risk assessment and mitigation.
- Strong leadership abilities with mentoring experience.
