Detailed Description From Employer:

hackajob is collaborating with Made Tech to connect them with exceptional professionals for this role. Description Initially 3 month FTC; potential to extend and/or convert to perm Support the next stage in evolving our internal data operations - bringing together different data sources to drive insight and active value from some of our key internal data sets. Sitting within the Operations team, you will act as the bridge between our raw business data and our strategic decision-making. You will own the integrity and reporting of data across our critical business systems, specifically Kantata SX, Salesforce, HiBob, Pinpoint, and Xero While you will work closely with Finance and People teams, your focus is distinct: you are the Data Steward You ensure the data flows correctly, is structured logically, and is accessible automatically, enabling those teams to focus on their specific narratives and modelling. You will also play a key role in Made Tech’s future, defining the requirements for a unified data layer that our engineers will build to support AI adoption.

Key Responsibilities This is a hands-on role that balances technical work with stakeholder engagement. On a typical day, you might: Dig into the data: Write SQL queries or use data visualisation tools (Looker) to investigate a discrepancy between our CRM (Salesforce) and our PSA (Kantata); or support analysis of our gender pay gap or hiring pipelines. Design solutions: Sketch out the logic for a new "retention risk" dashboard, deciding which data points from HiBob are relevant and how they should be weighted. Partner with stakeholders: Sit down with the Head of Finance or People to understand a reporting pain point, then translate their commercial need into a technical data requirement. Act as Data Steward: Identify a process failure where data is being entered incorrectly (e.g. project codes in Xero). Instead of just fixing it yourself, you will work with the System Owner to improve the validation rules so it doesn't happen again. Guide Engineering: Join a stand-up with the internal software/data engineers to review progress on the data warehouse build, clarifying logic or answering questions about the source data. If you are successful in this role, within your first year we will see: Unlocked People & Recruitment Insight: You will have turned underutilised data in HiBob and Pinpoint into actionable intelligence regarding retention, diversity, and hiring velocity, giving the People team the evidence they need to drive change. The End of "Copy-Paste" Reporting: You will have migrated our key operational reports from manual spreadsheet exports to automated, live dashboards. A "Single Source of Truth": You will have established clear data stewardship rules. When Finance pulls a revenue figure or Ops pulls a utilisation figure, they will match because you have aligned the underlying data definitions. AI-Ready Infrastructure: You will have successfully acted as the "Product Owner" for our internal data, delivering clear requirements to our data engineers so they have built a data layer that actually serves the business's reporting needs. You will report directly to the Director of Operations , giving you the mandate and seniority needed to drive change across the business. Although this is a standalone role within Ops, you are not working in isolation. You will have: Technical collaboration: Access to internal software and data engineers who will handle the heavy lifting of infrastructure setup and pipeline building. Subject Matter Experts: Direct access to Heads of Finance, People, and Delivery to provide context on the data. A community of practice: While your role is internal, Made Tech is a data company. You will be surrounded by hundreds of client-facing Data Engineers and Analysts who you can lean on for peer review, advice, or brainstorming complex SQL challenges.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise We are looking for a practical "Builder-Analyst"—someone who loves the messy reality of business data and knows how to tidy it up. You are a translator: You speak two languages fluently: "Technical" (SQL, Schema, API) and "Commercial" (Margin, Retention, Utilisation). You can explain to a Director why a report is delayed without using jargon. You are semi-technical: You might not be a full Data Engineer, but you are dangerous with data. You understand how relational databases work, can curl an API, you can write complex queries, and you can hack together an interim solution (scripts/automations) while waiting for the permanent infrastructure to be built. You are a Data Steward, not just a User: You care deeply about data quality. You understand that "System Admin" work (resetting passwords) is different from "Data Stewardship" (defining field standards), and you excel at the latter. You are commercially aware: You understand how a professional services business makes money. You know what "Utilisation" and "Billability" mean in a consultancy context. You are outcome-focused: You don’t build dashboards just because you can. You build them to answer a specific question or solve a specific business problem. You are trustworthy: Given the access to sensitive People and Financial data, you treat confidentiality and GDPR with the highest priority.
