Role Overview
Hackney Council is seeking an experienced Senior Information Officer to support high-quality Information Governance across the organisation.
The role will provide specialist advice on Data Protection, Freedom of Information (FOI) and information management, ensuring information is handled lawfully, securely and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on UK GDPR, Data Protection and FOI matters.
- Manage complex FOI, information rights and data protection cases.
- Support information governance compliance, assurance and risk management.
- Advise services on lawful and secure information handling.
- Support investigations into data breaches and information governance incidents.
- Develop and embed effective information management practices.
- Work with council services and stakeholders to improve IG compliance.
- Contribute to policies, guidance, training and awareness initiatives.
Essential Requirements
- Strong experience in Information Governance, Data Protection and FOI.
- Excellent knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection legislation.
- Experience managing complex information rights cases.
- Public sector/local government experience desirable.
- Strong analytical, advisory and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to interpret legislation and provide clear, practical advice.
