Summary: We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support various sustaining capital and heavy haul rail infrastructure projects in Perth, Western Australia. The role involves providing technical geotechnical input, coordinating designs, and conducting site visits. The ideal candidate will have 3-10 years of experience and will contribute to the successful delivery of projects. This position is a contract role with a 5/2 work roster.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage geotechnical site investigations (fieldwork, lab testing, reporting).
- Interpret ground conditions and prepare geotechnical models.
- Provide geotechnical design input for rail embankments, cuttings, foundations, slope stability, drainage, and retaining structures.
- Produce high-quality technical reports and geotechnical design documentation for clients, contractors, and design teams.
- Contribute to risk assessments, constructability reviews, and value engineering exercises.
- Review third-party geotechnical reports and provide peer input as required.
- Utilize and maintain geotechnical databases and data management systems (e.g., OpenGround, gINT).
- Collaborate closely with civil, structural, and environmental teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Travel to sites on an as-needed basis to support investigation or construction phases.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a major in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 3 to 10 years of practical geotechnical engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience in brownfield infrastructure or rail projects.
- Familiarity with soft soil conditions, fill embankments, ground improvement, or similar.
- Proficiency with geotechnical software such as OpenGround or gINT.
- Experience with PLAXIS, SLIDE, SLOPE/W, or equivalent numerical modelling tools.
- Knowledge of GIS systems for spatial analysis and mapping (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Mid-level geotechnical engineers looking to grow in a multidisciplinary project environment.
