Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer

Summary: The Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer will deliver innovative and safe geotechnical design solutions for high-impact water and rail infrastructure projects on a contract basis in Manchester. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards while providing expert technical input and leadership. The engineer will also mentor junior staff and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve project milestones.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce detailed geotechnical and civil engineering design calculations and drawings.
• Prepare site investigation briefs, technical reports, and project specifications.
• Ensure design deliverables meet required safety, quality, and professional standards.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians.
• Conduct and contribute to formal design reviews, including IDC/KM7 meetings and technical presentations.
• Accurately estimate time and resources for design activities and deliverables.
• Implement and document changes to design packages in a structured manner.
• Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams to meet project milestones.

Key Skills:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical and/or civil engineering design.
• Strong background in geotechnics, including preparation of ground investigation specifications and interpretive reports.
• Degree or HND in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Proficient in relevant engineering design software and IT tools.
• Registered with a professional engineering body and actively pursuing chartership.
• Effective communication and presentation skills with a focus on results, quality, and safety.
• Committed to mentoring, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
