Summary: The Senior GeMS Research Scientist role at the Francis Crick Institute is a full-time, temporary position focused on overseeing the Genetic Modification Service within the Biological Research Facility. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead key aspects of the GeMS service, specifically cryopreservation, rederivation, and gene delivery.
  • Assist the Head of GeMS and Senior Managers in overseeing GEMS projects and ensuring timely updates to researchers.
  • Collaborate across work areas and participate in essential out-of-hours rotas for effective service delivery.
  • Train, develop, and motivate staff to achieve best practice standards and enhance collaborations.
  • Review and update relevant documents such as SOPs, COSHH, and Risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.

Key Skills:

  • A degree or equivalent in a biological subject or significant work experience in a relevant area.
  • Considerable experience in Murine cryopreservation, surgical techniques, gene delivery, and animal husbandry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team with a flexible and cooperative approach.
  • Experience working with animal models.
  • Proven track record in training staff to adhere to defined Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs).
  • Strong communication skills to interact across different staff levels and influence others.
