Senior Finance Analyst - Income & Debt Improvement Programme
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Finance Analyst to join our local authority client and play a key role in delivering the Council's ambitious Income and Debt Improvement Programme.
This position offers the chance to make a tangible impact on one of the Council's key financial priorities by supporting income collection, reducing outstanding debt, and driving improved financial performance across a range of critical services.
Working within a fast-paced local government environment, you will analyse complex financial and operational data, identify trends and performance gaps, and provide actionable recommendations that support strategic decision-making and service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse large and complex datasets relating to income collection, debt recovery and customer payment behaviour.
- Review debt portfolios and recovery activity to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Produce high-quality management information, reports and dashboards for senior stakeholders.
- Develop insight-led recommendations that support improved collection rates and debt reduction strategies.
- Support targeted interventions across:
- Council Tax
- Adult Social Care Debt
- Housing Benefit Overpayments
- Sundry Debt
- Monitor performance against key income and debt recovery indicators.
- Work collaboratively with operational teams and senior managers to implement improvements and drive measurable outcomes.
- Present complex financial information in a clear and meaningful way to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
- Significant experience in a Finance Analyst, Senior Analyst, Revenue Analyst or Financial Performance role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience handling large datasets.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capability.
- Experience producing management information, performance reporting and business insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to translate complex data into practical recommendations and business improvements.
- Experience working within a Local Authority, Public Sector or Housing environment.
Highly Desirable: Experience using local government systems including:
- NEC
- Mosaic
- Abacus
- Oracle Financials
