Senior Engineering Manager - Backend Platform
6 months contract initially, Outside IR35, London based office (1 day a week on site preferred)
We're working with a fast-growing, global tech company undergoing a major cloud transformation, and they're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead their Back End platform team. This is a high-impact role focused on shaping a modern, scalable, cloud-native platform while keeping existing systems stable and performant during the transition.
What you'll be doing
- Leading and growing a Back End/platform engineering team
- Driving cloud adoption and modern engineering practices (CI/CD, observability, etc.)
- Overseeing platform architecture and Back End services at scale
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve reliability and developer experience
- Playing a key role in a large-scale platform transformation
What they're looking for
- Strong background in Back End/platform engineering
- Proven experience managing engineering teams
- Experience with cloud environments (GCP preferred)
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalable architectures
- Ability to balance hands-on technical input with strategic leadership
