Summary: The Solutions Engineering Manager will lead a high-performing team within the Solution Engineering department on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role involves overseeing operational governance, optimizing team performance, and collaborating on technical strategies for modern engineering platforms. The ideal candidate will possess strong software architecture experience and the ability to implement modern engineering practices to enhance team capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the building and development of the solutions teams, ensuring the stability and evolution of the software solutions produced.
- Provide well-considered technical recommendations to stakeholders, balancing competing priorities to maximise business value.
- Influence long-term solution delivery strategies and contribute to wider CIO goals.
- Create and share essential technical knowledge, tools, and resources to support the team's growth.
- Contribute to successful delivery, ensuring correct software decisions are made, reducing risks, removing obstacles, and actively managing dependencies.
- Collaborate with architecture teams to provide engineering input into governance and design where needed.
- Lead line management, focusing on high performance, talent mix, and career development for team members.
- Ensure that vendor skills and resources are aligned with business goals and actively manage vendor performance for success.
Key Skills:
- Strong understanding of software delivery, programming languages, and modern architectural patterns.
- Proven leadership experience with a focus on strategic planning and decision-making.
- Recent back-end coding experience, ideally in .NET and/or Python.
- Hands-on experience with best practices in software engineering, including TDD, Continuous Delivery, and DevSecOps.
- Extensive delivery experience, applying programmatic principles, leading teams, and managing cross-team dependencies.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, including negotiation and influencing abilities.
- Experience in a product-driven environment with a focus on managing backlogs based on business value.
- Ability to present complex information concisely and effectively, while managing a demanding workload.
