Summary: The Senior Engineer - Mechanical - HVAC role focuses on applying specialized design knowledge in the mechanical aspects of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems within the marine engineering sector. The position involves resolving complex design problems, developing HVAC systems, and ensuring technical viability and safe operation of auxiliary systems. The role requires participation in engineering processes and procedures, as well as providing technical analyses and recommendations. Candidates must obtain full Security Clearance (SC) before commencing work due to the sensitive nature of the role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and modifying engineering processes and procedures in response to technical developments and operational needs.
- Carry out specialist technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with recommendations.
- Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and quality standards, and conduct design appraisals.
- Investigate operational problems or developments and prepare solutions individually or as part of a project team.
- Support the Principal Engineer as the specialist point of contact with customers and suppliers on engineering matters.
- Identify business opportunities and prepare bids in areas of expertise.
- Provide guidance to less experienced team members to support their development.
- Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility.
Key Skills:
- Degree qualified in engineering or a related discipline (not essential).
- Eligibility for registration as Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council and membership in a relevant Professional Body.
- 5 years of experience in engineering or a defense-related industry.
- Expertise in Marine Engineering Systems.
- Experience in the design, build, integration, support, and operation of Naval ships.
- Knowledge of shipbuilding, operations processes, and modern build strategies.
- Familiarity with processes and tools used in Marine Engineering.
- Awareness of Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programs.
- Understanding of how marine engineering integrates with other technologies and products.
- Commercial awareness.
- In-depth knowledge of the application of specialization to the maritime environment.
