Key Responsibilities
- Apply Human Factors (HF) expertise across warship design, balancing competing technical requirements.
- Plan and deliver HF activities, including resource organisation and stakeholder coordination.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Project Managers to achieve HF programme objectives and milestones.
- Produce high-quality deliverables, including technical reports and presentations.
- Promote HF principles and best practices in human-centred design among stakeholders.
- Identify and manage technical risks, contributing to mitigation strategies.
- Support capability development by mentoring junior engineers and sharing knowledge.
Job Requirements
- Experience in defence Human Factors, ideally within the maritime domain.
- Good understanding of implementing Human Factors principles in maritime design within a systems engineering context.
- Knowledge of HF methods such as task analysis and performance assessment.
- Awareness of external factors like safety, environmental impact, and sustainability.
- Comfortable working with a broad range of technical specialists.
- Ability to design and run HCI usability trials to evaluate products.
- Proficient with relevant HF software tools such as Axure RP and digital human modelling tools (e.g., Jack).
Qualifications
- Degree in a technology, engineering, or science-related discipline (expected).
- Qualification in Human Factors, UI/UX design, or psychology (preferred).
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership of a suitable professional institute, such as CIEHF (preferred).
- UX design certification (desirable).
This is a 12-month contract position with two available headcounts.
Candidates will need BPSS + SC clearance in flight.
