Summary: The Senior Electronic Design Engineer role at a leading defence prime in Basildon involves supporting the development of high-fidelity thermal imaging and airborne sensor products. The position requires expertise in electronic design, circuit simulation, and PCB layout, with a focus on precision guidance programmes. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplined Integrated Project Team, contributing to various stages of the product lifecycle. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support new designs for precision guidance programmes.
  • Conduct requirement definition and support the generation of verification plans.
  • Perform electronic design analysis, circuit simulation, and prototyping.
  • Provide electronic schematic capture and PCB layout support.
  • Design power supply and interface circuits for digital processors and microcontrollers.
  • Engage in high-speed digital design, including FPGA, DDR, and high-speed LVDS video designs.
  • Test and debug electronic circuits.
  • Develop subsystem engineering solutions and specifications.
  • Specify cabling and connector solutions.
  • Integrate and verify system and sub-systems.
  • Support qualification processes, including EMC.
  • Assist with production and delivery support.

Key Skills:

  • SC clearance or ability to obtain it.
  • Knowledge and experience of all stages of the engineering development lifecycle.
  • Experience in digital and analogue electronic design.
  • Board level PCB design experience, ideally using Siemens EDA Xpedition Enterprise.
  • Ability to operate at the product system level.
  • Experience in specifying and defining COTS items.
  • Experience working with subcontract suppliers.
  • Ability to specify cable and connector solutions.
  • System level integration skills.
  • Technical decision-making ability within own sphere of responsibility.
  • Proactive approach in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of safety, security, and other legislative constraints (desirable).
  • Domain experience in Electronics Warfare and Thermal Imaging Systems (desirable).
