Senior Digital Project Manager - Contract - Inside IR35 - 3 month initially - Newcastle
We’re on the lookout for a Senior Digital Project Manager to join a high-profile, public sector programme focused on reducing legacy technology risk across a large and complex IT estate. This is a contract role that offers the chance to operate at programme level, supporting core planning, oversight, reporting, and governance across 50+ tech debt reduction projects. This isn’t your typical delivery role. You won’t be managing individual digital projects. Instead, you’ll play a key part in coordinating and enabling enterprise-wide delivery, working alongside the Programme Lead to build structure, remove blockers, and ensure teams have what they need to deliver confidently. You’ll work in a hybrid delivery environment that’s mostly waterfall (given the need for full service readiness), but enhanced with agile ways of working like stand-ups, retros, and iterative planning.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting the core team to deliver programme-level planning, tracking, and reporting
- Facilitating coordination across delivery teams, helping to manage interdependencies and priorities
- Contributing to stakeholder governance, milestone planning, content decks, and delivery dashboards
- Enhancing team operations using agile principles (capacity planning, retrospectives, stand-ups, etc.)
- Supporting internal initiatives such as recruitment mapping, commercial oversight, and contract management
- Building strong relationships with internal and external delivery partners to align effort and outcomes
- Ensuring timely and accurate delivery reporting across the programme, supporting both executive and working-level updates
You’ll bring:
- Strong experience in digital project delivery roles, ideally at both project and programme levels
- Confidence managing planning and delivery across multiple interdependent projects
- Experience working in hybrid environments, comfortable with waterfall delivery, but fluent in agile techniques
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to work across teams and functions
- Familiarity with complex tech estates and legacy systems is a plus
- A pragmatic, proactive mindset – someone who can create structure where it’s needed and keep momentum moving
