Summary: The Senior Mechanical Designer role is a contract position focused on the design and development of high-integrity gearboxes for the naval defence industry. The position requires full-time onsite work in Huddersfield, primarily on Dreadnought submarine projects, involving collaboration with key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in mechanical design within the Defence sector and expertise in CAD software. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful delivery of engineering solutions in a high-profile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engineering design of geared transmission systems and components
• Develop and re-engineer designs for new applications
• Design test equipment and procedures for gearboxes
• Interpretation of customer specifications and design standards
• Supporting and collaborating with team members across various disciplines
• Creation of deliverable documentation including proposals, manuals, and installation instructions
• Expert-level usage of 2D and 3D CAD software, preferably Solid Edge
• Liaison with production engineering and supply chain teams for problem-solving

Key Skills:

• Experience in mechanical design, particularly in the Defence sector
• Proficiency with Solid Edge and SAP software
• Understanding of engineering design data specification in SAP
