Summary: The Senior Database Manager will oversee the development and maintenance of SQL databases for the respiratory viruses Epidemiology team, facilitating data processes and access to health record datasets. This role involves collaboration with senior epidemiologists and partner organizations to implement data linkage algorithms and assess their scalability. The position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to navigate complex data access issues while ensuring data accuracy and completeness. The successful candidate will contribute to strategic research directions and the development of innovative health record data linkage methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of databases for secure and efficient data flows.
  • Collate and assess the feasibility of linking health record datasets.
  • Navigate and negotiate data access issues with partners including UKHSA and NHS.
  • Identify key variables for record linkage using formal and informal identifiers.
  • Assess the accuracy and completeness of health record data and standardize datasets.
  • Implement deterministic and probabilistic linkage algorithms and adapt methodologies as needed.
  • Address issues related to data divergence, redundancy, and overlap.
  • Participate in longitudinal analysis to enhance understanding of respiratory infections.

Key Skills:

  • Relevant post-graduate qualification in quantitative scientific discipline or Epidemiology/public health.
  • Experience with database management systems, particularly SQL.
  • Knowledge of health record data linkage and statistical software (e.g., R, STATA, SAS).
  • Strong data management and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Good organization, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Understanding of data protection laws and information governance.
