Summary: The Senior Data Engineer role focuses on developing and optimizing scalable data pipelines within an Azure-based data platform for a well-known organization. The position requires collaboration with various teams to deliver reliable data solutions that support analytics and business decision-making. The role is hybrid, requiring one day per week onsite in Manchester, and is offered as a 6-month contract. The position is classified as outside IR35 with a competitive daily rate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines for structured and unstructured datasets
- Develop ELT workflows using Azure Databricks and PySpark
- Write efficient SQL queries and support data modelling activities
- Support batch and near real-time data processing requirements
- Work across Azure services including Storage Accounts, Event Hubs, and Key Vault
- Help improve data quality, governance, and platform reliability
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions
Key Skills:
- Experience working as a Data Engineer within an Azure environment
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and PySpark
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational databases
- Experience supporting and maintaining production data pipelines
- Good communication skills and ability to work within cross-functional teams
- Exposure to streaming technologies or real-time data processing (nice to have)
- Experience with data governance tooling or Unity Catalog (nice to have)
- Exposure to Salesforce or Data Cloud integrations (nice to have)

This role will focus on building and optimising scalable data pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and wider business decision-making across the organisation. You’ll be working closely with data, product, and business teams to deliver reliable and practical data solutions in a modern cloud environment.
