Senior Data Engineer

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Dara Engineer to work for our client within the finance sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Manchester. Our client is seeking a Senior Data Engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high quality data products and reporting solutions for the client’s telephony applications. You'll be working closely with various stakeholders, identifying and understanding data requirements and providing actionable insights through comprehensive reports and dashboards, ensuring that data is accessible, reliable, and available for analytical and operational purposes.

Responsibilities

• Gather and analyse data from various sources to produce rich data visualisations to support business decision-making
• Develop, maintain, and manage reporting solutions, including dashboards and regular reports
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency across all reports and dashboards
• Design, implement, and maintain data solutions to ensure optimal performance and data integrity
• Develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions
• Monitor database performance, implement changes when required
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in data engineering and recommend improvements to existing systems and processes
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and provide tailored solutions
• Ensure seamless integration of data solutions with existing systems and processes
• Train and support end-users on database and reporting tools
• Collaborate with Technical and Business teams across the Group to ensure data security and compliance

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Data Engineering role, ideally in the bank sector
• Experience working with telephony platforms and a strong understanding of IVR (Interactive Voice Response) and related business processes
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP); familiarity with ICP, Azure, or other cloud services
• Demonstrated background as a Database Engineer, Data Analyst, or in a similar technical role
• Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database technologies, with the ability to write complex queries and optimise performance
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data pipeline development
• Experience using data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms to present insights to stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of data modeling techniques for both structured and unstructured data
• Familiarity with cloud-native data tools and services (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Azure Synapse)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify root causes and develop scalable solutions for complex data issues
• Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders
• Strong team player with a collaborative mindset, comfortable working in cross-functional teams
