Summary: The Senior Data Engineer will support the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) by designing, migrating, and optimizing the Trust's data warehouse capabilities. This role requires hands-on engineering skills to deliver production-grade outputs in a complex NHS environment. The contractor will work closely with the FDP Programme Lead and Group Digital Delivery function to ensure effective data integration and governance. The position is hybrid, with an initial contract duration of six months, outside IR35 status to be confirmed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support migration of existing Trust data warehouse assets into the FDP environment
  • Design and optimise scalable data pipelines for operational and clinical data
  • Build and enhance ELT/ETL processes
  • Develop robust data models aligned to FDP standards
  • Improve performance, reliability and governance of warehouse architecture
  • Support integration of EPR, PAS and operational systems into the platform
  • Work with BI and analytics teams to ensure usable, trusted datasets
  • Provide technical assurance and documentation

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience delivering enterprise data warehouse solutions
  • Strong SQL and data modelling capability
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Azure preferred)
  • Experience building ELT/ETL pipelines (Python, dbt, Airflow or similar)
  • Experience in NHS or large public sector data environments
  • Understanding of healthcare data structures (CDS, SUS, RTT, EPR extracts etc.)
  • Strong grasp of data governance and IG in healthcare

Overview
Our NHS Client are progressing their implementation of the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) as a core enterprise data environment.
We require an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support the design, migration and optimisation of the Trust's data warehouse capabilities within the FDP ecosystem.
This is a delivery-focused role working alongside the FDP Programme Lead and Group Digital Delivery function.
The successful contractor must be able to operate independently in a complex NHS environment and deliver production-grade data engineering outputs quickly.

Scope of Work
The contractor will:
Support migration of existing Trust data warehouse assets into the FDP environment
Design and optimise scalable data pipelines for operational and clinical data
Build and enhance ELT/ETL processes

Essential Experience
Proven experience delivering enterprise data warehouse solutions
