Summary: The role of Senior Data Engineer involves developing a modern data platform using Microsoft Fabric for a leading London-based organization. This hands-on position focuses on designing scalable data solutions and optimizing performance across various business areas. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams and will be required to be onsite three days a week. This position is a 6-month contract classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build scalable, production-grade data pipelines and Lakehouse/Warehouse solutions using Microsoft Fabric.
- Implement advanced Fabric capabilities such as Shortcuts, Mirroring, Delta optimisation, and metadata-driven ingestion frameworks.
- Develop high-quality data models including Star Schema, Data Vault, and Medallion architecture.
- Optimize performance, governance, security, and cost across Fabric workspaces.
- Collaborate with BI teams to deliver high-performing Power BI semantic models.
- Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and the overall data platform strategy.
- Utilize strong expertise in PySpark, Spark SQL, and modern data engineering practices.
- Work with CI/CD, Git, automation, and testing for data pipelines.
- Implement data governance tools such as Microsoft Purview.
- Handle D365 Finance & Operations data ingestion.
Key Skills:
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, Notebooks).
- Strong expertise in PySpark and Spark SQL.
- Solid experience with enterprise data modelling and Medallion architecture.
- Experience with CI/CD, Git, automation, and testing for data pipelines.
- Experience implementing data governance tools (e.g. Microsoft Purview).
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric components (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2).
- Experience collaborating with BI teams for Power BI semantic models.
- Knowledge of performance optimization and governance in data platforms.

The successful candidate will design and deliver scalable data solutions across ingestion, modelling, and optimisation, working closely with cross-functional teams to help shape a robust, future-ready data platform. This role requires the Senior Data Engineer to be onsite at the client's London offices three days per week.
