Summary: An experienced Senior Commercial Contracts and Procurement Lawyer is sought to join a local authority legal team in London for an initial 3-month contract, with the potential for a permanent position. The role involves providing high-quality legal advice on commercial, procurement, and contract matters while supervising a junior lawyer. The position offers a hybrid working arrangement and a competitive daily rate. Candidates must have significant experience in contracts and procurement law and be committed to public service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on complex commercial and contract matters including drafting, negotiation, and procurement compliance
- Advise on contract claims and manage associated risks
- Supervise and develop a junior lawyer within the team
- Prepare and deliver legal reports, briefings, and committee advice
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and efficiency of the legal service
- Deputise for the Chief Contracts Lawyer as required
Key Skills:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX (England & Wales)
- Significant post-qualification experience in contracts and procurement law
- Strong understanding of commercial, building contract, and public procurement law
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage and develop junior legal staff
- Strong commitment to equality, diversity, and high-quality public service delivery
