Summary: The Senior Cloud Platform Engineer (GCP) role in Halifax, UK, involves leading cloud innovation by designing, building, and operating secure automated cloud platforms. Key Responsibilities:
- Be a hands-on leader, balancing deep technical work with mentoring and coaching.
- Design, build, and operate Google Cloud Platform (GCP) capabilities using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and modern CI/CD tools.
- Embed secure-by-design principles from architecture to runtime.
- Define and operate against SLOs/SLIs, implement observability, performance tuning, and automation.
- Enable API-first delivery with reusable patterns for API producers and consumers.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to communities of practice.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience delivering large-scale systems with high performance and availability.
- Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and CI/CD systems.
- Deep knowledge of containers, orchestration (Kubernetes), and service-mesh patterns (Istio).
- Strong API design and security skills (REST/OpenAPI, authN/Z, mTLS).
- Scripting proficiency in Bash or Python.
- Depth in GCP services, including GKE, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud Armor, Istio, Stackdriver, and Apigee.

Join our Cloud Native Engineering Lab as a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer (GCP) and help us design, build, and operate secure, automated cloud platforms that empower product teams to deliver API-first services at pace and with confidence.
Responsibilities
- Engineering Leadership: Be a hands-on leader, balancing deep technical work with mentoring and coaching to raise the bar on reliability, security, and simplicity.
- Platform Development: Design, build, and operate Google Cloud Platform (GCP) capabilities using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and modern CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Harness, Spinnaker).
- Security & Reliability: Embed secure-by-design principles from architecture to runtime, safeguarding colleagues and customers.
- Performance & Automation: Define and operate against SLOs/SLIs, implement actionable observability, performance tuning, and automation to reduce toil.
- API-First Enablement: Enable API-first delivery with reusable patterns and golden paths for API producers and consumers.
- Community & Mentorship: Mentor engineers, contribute to communities of practice, and uphold Platform Engineering standards.
Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering large-scale systems with high performance, availability, and fault-tolerance.
- Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and CI/CD systems.
- Deep knowledge of containers, orchestration ( Kubernetes ), and service-mesh patterns ( Istio ).
- Strong API design and security skills (REST/OpenAPI, authN/Z, mTLS, certificate lifecycle).
- Scripting proficiency in Bash or Python.
- Depth in GCP services , including: GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine) Cloud Load Balancing Cloud Armor Istio Stackdriver (Cloud Monitoring & Logging) Apigee for API Management
Desirable: Harness, HashiCorp Vault, Dynatrace, Docker/buildah, NodeJS for API tooling, relevant GCP certifications .
