Detailed Description From Employer:

Senior Cloud Platform Architect - Contract - Outside IR/35

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Cloud Platform Architect to help define and scale a cloud-native platform environment. The role sits at the architectural level, shaping how infrastructure and applications are designed, deployed, and operated across AWS.

This is not an SAP/BTP-first role - candidates should come from a hyperscaler cloud background, with SAP exposure considered a bonus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define end-to-end cloud platform architecture on AWS
  • Design and govern Infrastructure-as-Code approaches (Terraform, Helm)
  • Architect Kubernetes-based environments and container deployment strategies
  • Embed Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles across the platform
  • Define best practices for:
    • Deployment workflows (eg blue/green deployments)
    • Monitoring, alerting, and reliability
    • Scalable and resilient infrastructure
  • Translate high-level business and technical requirements into architectural designs
  • Work closely with platform engineering teams responsible for execution
  • Provide architectural governance and guide engineering teams on implementation

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Cloud/Platform Architect in AWS environments
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform essential)
    • Kubernetes and container orchestration
    • Helm and deployment tooling
  • Experience with platform engineering and cloud-native architecture patterns
  • Strong knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) concepts
  • Ability to design end-to-end architecture life cycle:
    • From initial request - design - deployment - monitoring - optimisation
  • Comfortable operating at both strategic (architecture) and light hands-on level

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to SAP landscapes or SAP BTP
  • Experience working in SaaS or product-led environments
  • Understanding of "opinionated platforms" (eg abstractions over hyperscalers like BTP)
