Summary: Drive the evaluation and migration from VMware to a next-gen virtualization platform while architecting a secure, scalable Windows infrastructure for hybrid environments. The role involves leading proof of concept (POC) creation and benchmarking to identify the optimal platform, as well as developing a detailed implementation strategy for migrating on-prem VMs to Azure. This position requires extensive experience in Windows infrastructure engineering and a strong focus on automation, security, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate & compare VMware alternatives for feasibility, cost, and performance.
- Lead POCs and performance benchmarking as part of this evaluation.
- Develop & execute a migration roadmap for the design & implementation of this platform.
- Azure integration (Azure Arc, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Migrate).
- Champion automation, security & compliance.
Key Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in Windows infrastructure engineering and architecture.
- 2+ years of experience in VMware-to-non-VMware migrations or hybrid cloud virtualization projects.
- Expertise in at least two or more VMware alternatives such as Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, KVM, Proxmox, or OpenStack.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity management.
- Experience with automation and IoC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and/or PowerShell DSC.
- Strong networking and storage knowledge, including SDN, SAN/NAS, NVMe, and vNIC configurations.
- Understanding of security and compliance (NIST, CIS, SOC2).
- Experience with Azure integration (Azure Arc, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Migrate).
- Proven ability to lead large-scale infrastructure transformation projects in a regulated financial environment.
