Summary: The Senior Civil Engineer role involves leading and managing a team to deliver complex civil engineering projects within the utilities sector. The position requires ownership of technical delivery, resource coordination, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the water/utilities sector and a strong technical background in both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets. This is a contract position based in Kent, England, for a duration of 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and support a team of Civil Engineers
  • Conduct 1:1s and performance appraisals
  • Manage workload, holiday approvals, expenses, and technical queries
  • Provide coaching and support in reactive and emergency situations
  • Review and check project scopes to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with quality standards
  • Deliver technical solutions across capital projects, including: Producing Scope Documents, Site Information, Design Drawings, and CDM documentation
  • Compiling job packs to meet project timelines
  • Act as a technical point of contact for internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Secure necessary consents and approvals to enable delivery
  • Undertake site visits for audits, contractor guidance, and issue resolution
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers to ensure alignment on timelines, cost, and deliverables

Key Skills:

  • HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards it
  • Proven experience in the water/utilities sector, ideally with potable water assets
  • Strong technical expertise in both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets (WTWs, booster stations, pipelines, hydraulics)
  • Solid understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and their practical application
  • Confident communicator and proactive team leader
  • Strong decision-making skills and engineering judgement
  • Proficient in MS Office; Google Workspace experience is a plus
