Summary: The Senior Civil Design Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and delivery of water treatment works for a leading Tier 1 contractor, focusing on clean water and wastewater projects during the AMP7 and AMP8 investment cycles. This freelance position requires technical ownership of civil engineering designs and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The role offers remote working flexibility with occasional site visits and client meetings. The engineer will also provide mentorship to junior team members and contribute to value engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate the civil design process for water treatment works, including potable and wastewater projects.
• Develop designs for reinforced concrete structures, pipelines, earthworks, drainage, and hydraulic structures.
• Produce, review, and approve detailed design calculations, drawings, technical reports, and risk assessments.
• Ensure designs comply with UK water industry standards, including WIMES, Sewers for Adoption, CDM regulations, and BS/Eurocodes.
• Support the development of temporary works designs and construction methodologies.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, regulators, subcontractors, and site teams, to ensure seamless project execution.
• Contribute to value engineering initiatives, identifying cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality and compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team.

Key Skills:

• Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent); Chartered status (ICE or IStructE) desirable.
• Experience in civil design for water treatment and wastewater projects.
• Strong knowledge of UK water industry standards and regulations.
• Proficiency in producing detailed design calculations and technical documentation.
• Ability to engage and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Experience in value engineering and cost-effective design solutions.
