Summary: The Senior CAD / BIM Designer role involves working with a leading civil engineering contractor on significant infrastructure projects in the UK. The position requires producing high-quality 2D drawings and 3D models while ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards. The designer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. This freelance role emphasizes technical expertise in CAD/BIM and a strong understanding of civil infrastructure design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and manage detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for large-scale civil engineering projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and other key stakeholders to ensure designs align with project objectives and industry standards.
  • Support the development of bridges, tunnels, highways, drainage systems, and water treatment facilities, applying sector-specific knowledge.
  • Ensure all work aligns with BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 requirements, contributing to federated models, clash detection, and data-rich digital workflows.
  • Assist in the development of automation, parametric design, and digital workflows to enhance productivity and improve project outcomes.
  • Maintain adherence to industry best practices, ensuring designs are efficient, sustainable, and compliant with relevant regulations and safety standards.

Key Skills:

  • Proven background working on highways, structures, or water sector projects in a CAD / BIM design capacity.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, InfraWorks, and other BIM-related software. Experience with Dynamo, scripting, or automation tools is an advantage.
  • Experience working within BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 environments, including model coordination and clash detection.
  • Ability to analyse complex design challenges and propose innovative solutions.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Background in a civil engineering design consultancy or main contractor environment preferred.
