Summary: The Senior Buyer - Maternity Cover role involves managing a small team and overseeing purchasing activities within a manufacturing or heavy engineering environment. Key responsibilities include maintaining stock levels, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The position requires strong leadership and negotiation skills, along with proficiency in SAP and category management. The role also emphasizes the importance of cost-saving strategies and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Day to day management of direct reports, including TMS, appraisals & PDP's.
- Assist in the implementation of category management approach.
- Support with site-specific requirements or group purchasing instructions.
- Manage re-order points for spare parts and liaise with Engineering for stock maintenance.
- Manage consignment stocks and ensure monthly settlements are carried out.
- Create material master data in SAP for spare parts.
- Source non-stock engineering parts and record cost savings for audit purposes.
- Ensure daily SAP physical inventory checks and maintain stock accuracy.
- Assist MRP Controller with high value or priority purchases.
- Ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental rules and legislation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders for cost-saving strategies.
- Provide stores cover for machine shuts and departmental cover as required.
- Participate in training programmes and team meetings.
- Monitor and assess Operations/procedures for updates/improvements.
Key Skills:
- Highly motivated and analytical with excellent purchasing experience.
- Strong management skills to lead a small team.
- Experience using SAP with sound knowledge of MRP.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply at level 4 or above.
- Extensive experience in a supervisory purchasing role within manufacturing or heavy engineering.
- Excellent SAP MM experience and troubleshooting mentality.
- Experienced negotiator with a proven track record of cost reduction initiatives.
- Ability to manage a tender process.
- Strong leadership, motivation, teamwork, and flexibility.
- IT literacy (Word, Excel) and analytical skills.
- Commercial awareness and proactive approach to work and supervision.
- Target setting capabilities.
