Summary: The Senior Building Control Officer role involves ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and public health standards for building works in Bury. The position requires conducting inspections, advising developers, and managing a team of assistants. The role is temporary and crucial for maintaining public safety in building practices. Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance of all new building works with Building Regulations and current legislation through advice provision to developers and contractors.
- Conduct on-site meetings and inspections, liaise with relevant organisations, make necessary recommendations, and issue completion statements as appropriate.
- Investigate public complaints related to building works and provide advice on building issues outside the scope of building regulations.
- Respond to emergency situations involving dangerous structures, supervise remedial works, and represent the Authority in legal proceedings if necessary.
- Advise other Departments to ensure compliance with registration and licensing conditions for land and building uses, including temporary structures.
- Supervise and allocate work to Assistant Building Control Officers and a Technical Assistant, monitor performance, and identify training needs.
Key Skills:
- Full membership in CABE or RICS (Building Control).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the building control sector.
- Detailed knowledge of building construction and excellent knowledge of Building Regulations.
- Full driving licence and access to a car.
- Ability to attend work outside normal office hours in the event of an emergency.
- Class 2 registered.
