Summary: The Senior ASC & SEN Lawyer role at a dynamic London borough council involves providing expert legal advice and representation on complex Adult Social Care (ASC) and Special Educational Needs (SEN) cases. The successful candidate will collaborate with senior officers and stakeholders to shape policies and legal strategies that benefit the community. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as extensive experience in the relevant legal fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing expert legal advice on ASC matters, including Deprivation of Liberty cases, Court of Protection proceedings, judicial reviews, the Care Act, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Advising on SEN matters, ensuring compliance with local government education law.
  • Representing the council in legal proceedings, including advocacy in tribunals and courts.
  • Managing and supervising a team of lawyers and support staff, ensuring high standards of practice and case management.

Key Skills:

  • A qualification to practice as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in England and Wales.
  • Extensive experience in handling high-profile and complex ASC and SEN cases.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with experience advising senior stakeholders in a local government setting.
  • Excellent leadership skills with experience in mentoring and supervising legal professionals.
