Summary: The Senior Agri-Food Logistics / Cold Chain Expert will support the EU-funded project aimed at enhancing Uzbekistan's agri-food system through improved logistics, cold chain development, and post-harvest management. This role involves providing technical assistance, conducting assessments, and advising stakeholders to promote sustainability and efficiency in the agri-food sector. The expert will also coordinate with various entities and deliver training to enhance capacity in logistics and supply chain management. The position requires extensive experience in logistics and agri-food systems, particularly in developing economies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support development and modernisation of agri-food logistics and cold chain systems;
- Provide technical assistance on post-harvest management, storage systems, refrigerated transport, and supply chain optimisation;
- Conduct assessments related to logistics infrastructure, warehouse systems, cold storage facilities, and market connectivity;
- Support development of cold chain investment plans, logistics strategies, and operational improvement frameworks;
- Advise public institutions and private stakeholders on logistics efficiency, food quality preservation, and export-oriented supply chains;
- Promote integration of sustainability, energy efficiency, digital tracking systems, and climate-smart approaches into logistics systems;
- Contribute to preparation of logistics assessments, technical studies, operational guidelines, and policy recommendations;
- Coordinate with Ministries, logistics operators, agribusinesses, producer organisations, exporters, and development partners;
- Deliver workshops, technical training, and capacity-building activities related to agri-food logistics and cold chain management;
- Contribute to monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of logistics and supply chain development initiatives.
Key Skills:
- Master’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, agricultural engineering, agribusiness, food systems, or another relevant field;
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in logistics, cold chain systems, supply chain management, or agri-food infrastructure;
- Proven experience working on agricultural, logistics, or market development projects in developing or transition economies;
- Experience in international development cooperation and donor-funded programmes;
- Minimum 7 years of experience in agri-food logistics, cold chain systems, post-harvest management, or supply chain development initiatives;
- Demonstrated experience with refrigerated transport systems, storage infrastructure, warehouse management, or export logistics systems;
- Experience related to horticulture, food processing, export-oriented agriculture, or market access initiatives is considered an advantage;
- Experience supporting projects financed by the EU, World Bank, IFAD, FAO, ADB, EBRD, or other international financial institutions is considered a strong asset;
- Experience working with agribusiness companies, logistics operators, producer organisations, or export agencies is considered an advantage;
