Summary: The Senior Advisor for the Chemicals Programme at the Environment Agency will lead compliance efforts related to Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in waste management. This role requires a technical leader with a regulatory background to engage with stakeholders, advise the government, and design regulatory approaches. The position involves strategic planning, evidence study delivery, and collaboration with various teams to ensure compliance with POPs regulations. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills while managing complex challenges in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Environment Agency’s POPs compliance work and deliver environmental objectives.
- Provide technical leadership and advice to government and industry stakeholders.
- Design regulatory approaches based on knowledge of waste streams and management techniques.
- Plan and lead evidence studies for chemicals in waste streams.
- Collaborate with Waste and Resources teams to ensure compliance with POPs restrictions.
- Engage in international work and travel as required.
Key Skills:
- Experience in the waste sector, preferably in a regulatory capacity.
- Exceptional engagement and influencing skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in cooperative working within large organizations.
