Summary: The Senior Accessibility Consultant will leverage extensive technical expertise to enhance accessibility strategies within the organization. This role involves conducting audits, synthesizing complex information, and mentoring team members to improve overall accessibility practices. The consultant will also be responsible for producing high-quality reports and presenting findings to senior stakeholders. A hybrid working model is in place, requiring a minimum of 50% on-site presence in Manchester.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits across mobile apps and web platforms.
  • Test on physical devices and provide clear, prioritised, actionable recommendations.
  • Proactively present findings to Senior stakeholders, synthesising complex issues into strategic summaries.
  • Own the accessibility workstream, reducing the burden on the team.
  • Review and analyse internal and external accessibility reports, highlighting gaps, risks, and opportunities.
  • Produce high-quality reporting regularly and without prompting.
  • Contribute to governance, risk controls, and cross-platform accessibility standards.
  • Provide expert recommendations on accessibility tooling and maintain documentation on standards and best practices.
  • Support the development of the accessibility roadmap.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues on accessibility processes and deliver training sessions to uplift the capability of designers, developers, and testers.
  • Act as a thought leader in accessibility within the Digital organisation.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years in digital accessibility consulting roles.
  • Strong experience in conducting detailed audits for mobile and web.
  • Deep understanding of WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • Technical proficiency in ARIA, semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Hands-on experience with assistive technologies such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack, and ZoomText.
  • Proficiency with accessibility testing tools like Axe, CCA, and Accessibility Insights.
  • Ability to explain failures and provide clear remediation guidance.
  • Skill in simplifying complex findings and presenting structured insights.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and take ownership of deliverables.
