Summary: The SEND Mediation Coordinator role in Ellesmere Port involves managing mediation and SEND Tribunal cases to ensure compliance with statutory duties and achieve positive outcomes for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate mediation and SEND appeal cases, ensuring all statutory deadlines are met.
- Prepare and submit the Local Authority’s responses for mediation and Tribunal proceedings.
- Draft and amend complex Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Provide clear, timely communication to parents, carers, schools, and professionals.
- Chair and facilitate meetings, ensuring discussions remain solution-focused and child-centred.
- Deliver training and updates to colleagues and partners on statutory assessment processes and SEND legislation.
- Maintain accurate case records and contribute to performance and management reporting.
- Support service improvement initiatives to reduce the risk of mediation, Tribunal appeals, complaints, and judicial review.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and local policies.
Key Skills:
- Relevant qualification at Level 4 in Children and Families, QCF Level 3 (or equivalent relevant children’s qualification).
- Significant experience working with children, young people, and families, including those with disabilities and/or EHCPs.
- Strong understanding of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice 2015, SEND Regulations 2014, and the Equality Act 2010.
- Experience of managing complex or conflictual meetings and working with multiple stakeholders.
- Knowledge of legal or tribunal processes relating to SEND.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and maintain accurate case records.
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
- Desirable: Social Work, Teaching, Mediation, or related professional qualification.
- Direct experience of mediation or family-focused conflict resolution work.
- Experience within a Children’s Services or local authority setting.

Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for a SEND Mediation Coordinator to join a busy Inclusion and SEN service in Ellesmere Port. This is a key role supporting the effective management of mediation and SEND Tribunal cases, ensuring statutory duties are met and positive outcomes are achieved for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
The Role
As SEND Mediation Coordinator, you will manage a caseload of mediation and appeal-related cases, acting as the Local Authority’s lead officer within the statutory SEND Tribunal process. You will work closely with families, schools, commissioned mediation services, and multi-agency professionals to resolve disputes at the earliest opportunity and reduce escalation to Tribunal wherever possible. This role requires strong knowledge of SEND legislation, excellent case management skills, and the ability to manage complex and sometimes conflictual situations with professionalism and neutrality.
