Summary: The role of SEN Teacher involves leading a classroom team in a specialist school in Uxbridge, West London, dedicated to supporting children with complex needs. The teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering personalized lessons, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team, and fostering strong relationships with parents. Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver personalised, engaging lessons based on individual cognitive, sensory, and communication profiles
- Lead a class team of support staff to ensure consistency and a child-centred approach across all activities
- Work closely with therapists and specialists to embed therapeutic strategies into daily routines
- Use a wide range of AAC systems, including both high-tech tools (apps/devices) and low-tech supports (PECS, Sign-Along, visual aids)
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with parents and contribute to effective home–school communication
- Play an active role in EHCP processes, including writing reports and attending annual reviews
Key Skills:
- Holds QTS or equivalent and has substantial experience teaching in SEN settings (special school experience preferred)
- Is highly confident in using AAC systems, including both digital and manual forms
- Has a deep understanding of complex learning needs, sensory processing differences, and PBS (Positive Behaviour Support)
- Can confidently lead a classroom team and model high standards of teaching, care, and communication
- Is comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment and embedding therapy into learning
- Has strong experience working with families and contributing to EHCP reviews and target setting
