Section Engineer

Summary: The Section Engineer will manage and drive the engineering aspects of a project section, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards while coordinating site activities. Responsibilities include developing programmes and budgets, overseeing site engineers, and maintaining communication with various stakeholders. The role requires technical knowledge of construction techniques and effective planning to optimize resource use. The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, along with relevant experience and skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing and coordinating the activities of site engineers for timely and efficient quality control procedures.
• Developing 4-weekly programmes and assessing productivity for review at weekly progress meetings.
• Completing inspection and test plans, risk assessments, and method statements for work control.
• Communicating with works managers, foremen, and subcontractors to ensure understanding of project information.
• Reporting non-conformances to QA and QS teams and maintaining records of additional works resources.
• Procurement of plant, materials, and equipment through requisitions.
• Keeping a full and accurate daily site diary of changes, subcontractor attendance, and work discussions.
• Adhering to project policies and procedures.

Key Skills:

• Degree level qualification in Civil Engineering or HNC in Civil Engineering with vocational training.
• Understanding of engineering principles and technical knowledge of construction techniques.
• Computer competence in MS Word, Excel, and document control systems.
• Relevant CSCS Card.
• Training in health & safety and environmental management.
• Presentation skills for delivering inductions and briefings.
• Desirable skills include CAD and Trimble competence, and experience with reinforced concrete structures.
• Temporary Works Supervisor experience.
