Summary: The Seasonal Waterway Patroller will assist with lock operations at Lock 1 on the Shannon-Erne Waterway from May to September. This role involves supporting vessel movements, operating lock gates, and maintaining lock areas, while also covering for other patrollers during their leave. The position requires effective communication and basic numeracy skills, along with experience in lock operations and knowledge of health and safety issues. The successful candidate will work closely with Waterways Ireland staff and the public to ensure smooth navigation operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist vessels moving through lock chambers
- Assist with stern and stem lines
- Operate lock gates and sluices
- Assist the public
- Record lock passages
- Complete necessary maintenance functions of lock amenity areas and relevant Waterways Ireland buildings
- Cover other Waterway Patroller areas during periods of annual leave or as deemed necessary
- Report any lock incidents or accidents immediately
- Complete necessary inspections of Waterways Ireland infrastructure and facilities
- Ensure lock area is free from litter
- Report any faults to the area foreman
- Comply with and promote Waterways Ireland policies on equality
- Complete all required training within specified timeframes

WEEKLY PAY: £507.27 per week (pro rata)
CONTRACT DURATION: Seasonal Contract
SUMMARY OF ROLE
Waterways Ireland wishes to recruit a person to assist with lock operations at Lock 1 on the Shannon-Erne Waterway. The successful applicant will provide assistance with the operation of the navigation locks from May to September and may be required to provide cover for other Waterway Patrollers during leave periods at other locations along the Shannon-Erne Waterway.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist vessels moving through lock chambers
Assist with stern and stem lines
Operate lock gates and sluices
Assist the public
Record lock passages
Complete necessary maintenance functions of lock amenity areas and relevant Waterways Ireland buildings
Covering other Waterway Patroller areas during periods of annual leave or any other period as deemed necessary by the area Foreman
Report any lock incidents or accidents immediately to the area Foreman
Complete necessary inspections of Waterways Ireland infrastructure and facilities on a regular basis
Ensure lock area is free from litter at all times
Report any faults to the area foreman without delay
Other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the line manager or Engineering staff
Comply with and actively promote Waterways Ireland policies and procedures on all aspects of equality.
Complete all training as required by Waterways Ireland within specified timeframes.

Eligibility Criteria:
Possess a full, valid driving licence,
