Summary: The role of SDET involves taking ownership of automation, quality engineering, and test strategy for a high-visibility digital platform within a major UK government transformation programme. The position requires a hands-on approach to design and implement a new automation framework and ensure quality governance. The role is contract-based, requiring on-site presence in Birmingham for 2-3 days a week. Candidates must be eligible for SC clearance and have a strong background in automation engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build a new automation framework within Azure DevOps
  • Create a data-driven automated regression suite
  • Implement automation across CI/CD pipelines
  • Develop test automation for integrations, APIs, and platform services
  • Lead test strategy covering: integration, API, performance, security, accessibility (WCAG 2.2) and regression
  • Own test evidence, metrics, reporting and quality governance
  • Collaborate with architects, product leads and project managers to define testability and coverage
  • Perform targeted manual testing only where automation isn't feasible
