Summary: The Scrum Master role involves providing hands-on delivery and dependency coordination support for a leading insurance company. The position requires extensive knowledge of Agile/Lean frameworks, particularly Scrum and Kanban, and entails responsibilities in release planning, incident management, and squad facilitation. The role is hybrid, requiring two days per week in London, and is classified as inside IR35. The contract length is 3 to 4 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Release planning on a minimum of a weekly basis
- Supporting to remove impediments and blockers that arise with work/progress towards a release
- Setting up appropriate change requests
- Ensuring compliance with release audit/management responsibilities
- Liaising with change management for approvals and attending CAB if needed
- Resourcing release support and warranty support pre, during, and post release
- Contributing and signing off SOEs for larger deliverables
- Coordinating with wider web squads to avoid clashes and ensure alignment
- Acting as a bridge between platform and MR during defects or environment challenges
- Increasing release fluidity and driving value-add activities
- Liaising with major incident management during incidents
- Supporting bridge calls during incidents and engaging the right support
- Tracing back incident root causes based on release schedules
- Managing assigned incidents in service now and liaising with product owner
- Engaging with problem management post incidents for root cause analysis
- Facilitating ceremonies such as stand-ups, planning, and retrospectives
- Onboarding new starters and supporting access requirements
- Engaging with third-party teams for workflow alignment
- Facilitating discussions on squad maturity and impediments
- Liaising with project managers for large deliverables
- Managing Jira boards and improving ways of working
- Tracking squad performance and enhancing output
- Coordinating environment management
- Covering for Product Owner during annual leave
- Driving forward sessions to enhance squad efficiency
- Supporting product owner on backlog grooming and management
- Coaching the team on effective refinement and focused discussions
Key Skills:

Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge and experience of the principles, methods, practices and benefits of multiple Agile/Lean frameworks, in particular Scrum and Kanban
- The ability to apply Agile/lean practices beyond the team
- Familiarity working with other techniques that support agile working such as DevOps, Lean, Systems Thinking, Queuing Theory, Complex Adaptive Systems and Theory of Constraints
- Experience leading and caching teams with varying levels of experience
- In depth experience in Release Planning and Support,
- In depth experience in Complex Change Management Processes
- Complex Financial Services experience
Release Responsibilities:
- Release planning- on a minimum of a weekly basis
- Supporting to remove impediments and blockers that arise with work/progress towards a release, keeping deliverables on track
- Setting up of appropriate change requests
- Ensuring we meet our release audit/management responsibilities, following the correct release steps and document trails such as TSR's etc.
- Liaising with change management and ensuring appropriate approvals in place for releases, including attending CAB if needed.
- Resourcing both release support and warranty support pre, during and post release both inside and outside of the team
- Contributing and signing off SOE's where needed for larger deliverables
- Co-ordination with wider web squads to ensure avoidance of clashes/conflicts/alignment/issues
- Play a core role as bridge between platform and MR when defects or environment challenges arise
- Increasing release fluidity in the squad, driving forward value add activity and progressive release processes/speed/frequency improvements
Incident Responsibilities:
- Liaising and engaging major incident management when incidents occur
- Supporting bridge calls during incidents and engaging the right support
- Helping trace back incident root causes/impediments based on release schedules and service now records
- Picking up assigned incidents in service now and liaising with product owner/wider incident triage teams to manage incident triage/direction/archive
- Liaising with problem management post incidents to support root cause and resulting change management requirements
- Helping assess improvements to make to avoid incidents within the squad/help support improving stability
Squad Responsibilities:
- Facilitate ceremonies, namely stand up, planning and retrospectives
- Onboarding of new starters, supporting with access requirements, set up requests as well as software/hardware challenges.
- Engagement with third party teams eg PCW teams, Worldpay, Security, Ops etc that play a role in the squads workflow to ensure alignment is there.
- Engagement with internal dependencies for in progress work, such as dependencies DDO, Platform squads, Data, CCaSS etc.
- Facilitating discussions and ad hoc sessions relating to squad maturity/impediments (such as resource discussions, challenging WOW behaviour, blocker removal etc)
- Project management involvement, liaising with wider project managers/leads for large deliverables.
- Jira management, set up of new boards, maintenance of existing boards, improvement of WOW
- Squad WOW tracking and enhancements- collating and using data and insight to shape and coach the squad, improving velocity/throughput and better enhancing the output of retro actions
- Environment management and coordination
- Cover for Product Owner when on annual leave
- Helping drive forwards sessions such as three amigo's which enable the squad to progress with work and deliver more efficiently
- Supporting retro actions, driving forward considerable change each sprint within the squad
- Support product owner on backlog grooming process and management, in preparation for upcoming sprints
- Coaching the team on effective refinement, helping keep conversations on track and focused on top line problem rather than detailed solutions during session.
