Summary: The Scientist II role involves working within an interdisciplinary Analytical Core Laboratory team in San Diego, focusing on reagent and consumables development through advanced characterization techniques. Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a range of analytical instruments, including LC-QTOF, LC-QQQ, HPLC, ICP-MS, FT-IR, and NMR.
  • Design, optimize, and execute experimental protocols aligned with product development workflows.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate experimental data to diverse internal stakeholders.
  • Represent the Core team in user meetings, project presentations, and training sessions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support product development initiatives and optimize processes.
  • Adapt responsibilities as needed to meet evolving business and project needs.
  • Develop and implement analytical methods for complex scientific challenges.
  • Apply method development expertise to the characterization of biomolecules, including enzymes and oligonucleotides.
  • Manage and interpret complex datasets using platforms such as JMP, R, or Python.
  • Support compliance with internal standards and contribute to documentation of protocols and results.
  • Provide training, technical expertise, and support to Core users.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to expanding laboratory capabilities.

Key Skills:

  • Proficiency in analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and NMR.
  • Strong foundation in analytical chemistry, particularly method development and biomolecule characterization.
  • Experience managing and interpreting large, complex datasets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong multitasking, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across interdisciplinary teams.
