  • Represent the Education Directorate at dismissal hearings for staff employed by the Council.
  • Provide expert advice to senior leaders and governing bodies on dismissals, grievances, capability, disciplinary matters, and negotiated exits.
  • Advise on Green Book terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with the Council's pay spine and equal pay legislation.
  • Provide authoritative guidance on teachers' statutory employment frameworks.
  • Lead the development, review, and maintenance of model HR policies and procedures for maintained schools.

Key Skills:

  • Experience providing senior-level HR advice within an education, local authority, or similar public sector environment.
  • Strong track record of handling employee relations cases, including dismissals and grievances.
  • Experience advising on teachers' and school-based staff employment frameworks.
  • Proven experience of trade union consultation and negotiation.
  • Experience working directly with schools, governing bodies, or senior education leaders.
  • CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent professional experience).

The role ensures statutory compliance, effective employee relations and the consistent application of pay, conditions and HR policies.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:Act as the lead professional HR adviser to the Education Directorate and maintained schools on school workforce matters, providing authoritative, risk-based advice on employee relations issues.Represent the Education Directorate at dismissal hearings for staff employed by the Council, ensuring compliance with employment law and statutory guidance.Provide expert advice to senior leaders and governing bodies on dismissals, grievances, capability, disciplinary matters and negotiated exits, including supporting the Education Directorate in securing resignations of senior staff in community and voluntary controlled schools, where appropriate.Advise the Education Directorate and maintained schools on Green Book terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with the Council's pay spine, Single Status Agreement and equal pay legislation, including undertaking job evaluations using the GLPC Job Evaluation Scheme.Provide authoritative guidance on teachers' statutory employment frameworks, including the STPCD, the Burgundy Book and related statutory guidance, ensuring consistent and lawful application across community and voluntary controlled schools.Lead the development, review and maintenance of model HR policies and procedures for maintained schools, working in consultation with the Education Directorate, schools and recognised trade unions.
